Crimson Shroud - Vampire Survivors Guide - IGN (2024)

Added to Vampire Survivors in update 0.6.1, Crimson Shroud is an Evolved Weapon that's inarguably one of the most effective defensive tools currently in the game. But acquiring a defensive weapon as powerful as Crimson Shroud will require the collection of the Laurel weapon and the Metaglio Left and Metaglio Right hidden items.

In this Vampire Survivors guide, you'll find a step-by-step outline of how to unlock the Crimson Shroud and a description of how the Evolved Weapon functions.

Unlocking the Yellow Sign

Because you'll require Metaglio Left and Metaglio Right to evolve the Laurel into Crimson Shroud, your first step is to unlock the Yellow Sign so the Relic can enable you to detect hidden items on all stages.

To acquire the Yellow Sign, you'll need to unlock Moongolow by unlocking Hyper Mode for four normal stages. Once unlocked, you'll need to successfully complete Moongolow and defeat the boss that spawns at roughly the 15-minute mark and you'll be teleported to the hidden stage, Holy Forbidden.

Holy Forbidden can only be accessed after your first completion of Moongolow but if you fail to complete Holy Forbidden, the hidden stage will appear in your Stage Selection screen until you're able to beat it.

Complete Holy Forbidden and the Yellow Sign will be located in a sea of stained-glass windows near the stage's endpoint. The Yellow Sign will now allow you to find hidden items on all stages including the items Metaglio Left and Metaglio Right which are needed for this evolution.

How to Get the Crimson Shroud

Now that you've acquired the Yellow Sign you can enter any stage and begin collecting the Laurel, Metaglio Left, and Metaglio Right. Remember that while Metaglio Left and Metaglio Right can be collected as floor loot, you'll need to obtain the Laurel from a Level Up selection screen. It is recommended that you prioritize collecting the Metaglio Left because it can provide you a Recovery and Max Health buff whereas the Metaglio Right functions like the Gold Ring and grants enemies increased speed, health, quantity, and frequency.

Once you've collected all three components, you'll need to upgrade them as indicated below:

  • Laurel - Upgrade to Level 8
  • Metaglio Left - Upgrade to Level 9
  • Metaglio Right - Upgrade to Level 9

After completing these upgrades, the last step in unlocking Crimson Shroud is to defeat a high-tier enemy after the 10-minute mark and the enemy will drop a chest with Crimson Shroud as a reward.

Remember that the steps listed above do not need to be completed in any particular order to unlock the Crimson Shroud evolution.

Crimson Shroud Explained

The most important thing to know about the Crimson Shroud is that it caps all incoming damage to 10 damage per hit. So whether you're being attacked by feeble bats or the all-powerful Death, the maximum of amount of damage you'll take with each hit is only 10. Naturally, this is an insane amount of damage mitigation and the Crimson Shroud's defense is so strong that this Evolved Weapon is one of the must-have tools when attempting to kill Death.

As likely expected, the Crimson Shroud evolution has a lot of similarities to its previous incarnation, the Laurel. Like the Laurel, Crimson Shroud casts a protective bubble around your character that, when hit by an enemy, activates invincibility frames for a brief moment granting you temporary invulnerability. However, the protective barrier cast by Crimson Shroud has several layers of protection and it can absorb a few hits before bursting. This can be seen by the color of Crimson Shroud's bubble as it'll change color with every impact until it's temporarily destroyed.

Once the bubble has taken too much incoming damage, it'll explode and damage nearby enemies as it "retaliates when losing charges".

How to Unlock Divano Thelma

After evolving the Laurel into the Crimson Shroud, Divano Thelma will automatically become available for purchase from your Character selection screen. Coming in at a 5200 coin price point, Divano Thelma's starting weapon is the Laurel and their passive ability starts them off with an extra Level and allows Divano to gain +1 Armor for every 5 Levels earned (Max +5).
